Planting Onions

Onions_PlantedWe’re reaching a crucial moment with our spring planting as we put the last flat of onons in the ground. No one likes to plant onions because it takes forever. Thinking about handling 25,000 seedlings just doesn’t bring that sense of joy and fulfillment that’s associated with the idyllic misconceptions of farm life. But when it’s over there is a collective sigh of relief from a weary crew, until the farmer casually mentions the 5,000 odd leeks waiting to be gently arranged by human hands in perfect rows that will soon be the source of our next endless task – weeding.  The fun never stops on a vegetable farm.
